FC Naples were winless in USL League 1 play since April 11. That changed when the club recorded a 1-0 win over Westchester SC on Saturday, May 23 at the Paradise Sports Complex in Naples.
“I think we played really well the last few games. We kind of turned the leaf from the losing side [against Jacksonville],” FC Naples coach Matt Poland said.
The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. but was postponed early into the first half due to a lightning delay. The match resumed at 9 p.m.
“For our fans to stay here so long with the rain delay and be here so late cheering us on, we’re just glad we could give them something to cheer about,” said Poland.
Naples midfielder William Arevalo dictated the play up front, getting two shots on target and scoring the only goal of the match, a 45th minute half volley that whizzed past the hands of Westchester goalkeeper Luca Marinelli.
At the half, Naples had the upper hand in ball possession with 54% and had nine shot attempts with only three on target.
